Gentle Thoughts

As the snow diminishes slowly Spring is still afraid to join the world here. It looks so nice but is 15F of -9.4C. It is cold!!!!!!

The thorns of a Honey Locust were used as a fishhook.  On a recent hike with the scouts I had to unhook a boy when he walked into this. He was just trying to pull lose, and they don't let go very good.

The Loess Hills is a spectacular area to explore. I know two of you who live close to them and would love to get together for a hike. Everyone else is always welcome to join! This geological wonder is only present in western Iowa and some place in China.

As the sun slowly sets I think back at enjoying a wonderful day out in the bitter cold. I have drank at least six cups of coffee today to warm up. I told one lady at the café I was goijng to pour a bit in my pockets to stay warm, and she just shook her head at my silly humor. LOL

  1. Hello. I have never visited your part of the country so I especially enjoy these photos. Such beauty! Yes, that is cold to be out and about! I know the coffee tasted wonderful. One cold morning I had to drive John to Atlanta and I warmed up one of those microwaveable heat packs before leaving. The warmth around my neck felt great for about an hour - half the trip!
    Blessings to you this weekend.

  2. Several years ago you wrote about the Loess Hills. I did not know at the time how unique they are. So I did a lot of research. I live in a special place.

  5. It's cold here too. Those thorns look like they could hurt big time. I'm laughing at the thought of coffee pocket warmers

  6. Hi Steve - all I can say is thank goodness it's warmed up a bit up here ... I feel for you - sounds very 'horrid' ... take care - a hotwater bottle would be good ... or a roaring log fire - cheers Hilary

  11. We had honey locusts in the treepatch where I grew up. A kid can make a lot of things with those thorns. I love the barn photo! Not only is it cold here, but we have three to four feet of snow in the yard. Thanks for the walk.
