A Little Bird Told Me

Cardinals are starting to pair up for the season, where all winter they flocked.

It's like tucking in a child
Reminiscing on a day finishing well
And after sharing goodnights, there is beauty as well.

A real show stopper, Hooded Mergansers, on a small farm pond. I like the male on the right getting as much of his body out of the water for the female in front of him. These are the most skittish of any duck species next to Wood Ducks it seems. Ducks are harder than geese to get close to.
All four appear to be courting one particular female.
This is a Lesser Scaup on the bottom of this shot.

  1. What a wonderful post, Steve! The hawks and the cardinals are my favorites, but it would have been a thrill watching the Hooded Mergansers, too.
