Kingfisher

It was a day of snowmen rather than snow sledding. Warm weather came in for three days and offered some solace to the bitter cold we have had. It was fun to see so many people out enjoying it today. I took some sunflower seed to a local conservation center for a gift and shot pics all morning. These are from the day before south of me a ways. Getting ready to start the grill and cook steaks and crab legs.

Dogs on a run down the road.

Bald Eagles don't change color with the white  head until they are 3-4 years

It is real hard to see the Belted kingfisher watching this tiny thaw in a streams ice. This as many of you know is very allusive and hard to get a shot on.

And finally after many tries I got a few close-ups.

  2. Great pics of the fuzzy deer. And the young eagles. King fishers are such cool birds. I found a skull one time - still have it with the sharp ridge in the beak. Beautiful photos.

  3. Those darn kingfishers truly are elusive. But you've managed a couple of fine captures of them and all these other winter beauties.

  4. I think you did very well on the kingfisher. And the squirrel shot is excellent! Love seeing the eagles, too. Makes me wonder if they could be some of the Decorah eagles.

  9. Steve, enjoyed all the nature shots and that squirrel was a colorful standout. The young eagles certainly are not so majestic looking, yet. Wishing you a Happy New Year and see you in 2014 in blog doom.

  15. Wow, you have so many animal pictures. I've been having trouble finding very many animals around here. I think I just must not have figured out where to look yet. I'm glad the weather warmed up a little. I stayed inside for that deep freeze.
