Good Times

A roller coaster road reminded me of when I was young and my Dad and uncle loved to ride the back roads and listen to us laugh and giggle when we went over the crests at the right speed to almost feel airborne. We asked for more and hated returning back to the main roads hoping to enjoy this simple amusement out on the prairie. The second crest on this road caught me good and I almost braked as I soared into a childhood memory. I laughed and thanked them for such a great time.

Amazing to still see a few snakes still out and moving. Chilly nights might make one want to head off to a good place to spend the winter. The last snake I posted is considered a pilot snake often picking a good place for other species to join in for a good hibernation.

These were on opposite sides of the road from each other.

This is at the Lewis and Clark Monument in Council Bluffs.

At the Western Trails Center is this relief of the topography where Lewis and Clark traveled west.

  1. We had a road like that as well and called them the tickle hills. That feeling as you crest the hill and drop on the other side was soooo fun. I'd almost forgotten ... thanks for bringing that back to me...

  3. Beautiful prairie photos, Steve. The Lewis and Clark Monument is neat! Love the photo of the church steeple also.

I remember a steep road when my sons were little. Every time we went that way, they would squeal when we drove fast down that steep hill... I can hear their giggles to this day!

    Great moon shot.

  5. You have such a beautiful land to call home. May I use the photo here of your church? Is this the Holy Family Shrine? It's lovely and I would love to post it next! Blessings!

  8. I believe that the monument in Council Bluffs also recognizes the only person to die on the entire Lewis and Clark expedition. Appendicitis, I think.

Beautiful part of the country. And, thanks for the heads up on the verification issue.

  10. I remember the car rides over the small hills on the road. Roads have been smoothed out since then so no more fun. It's a wonder we didn't his somebody coming up the other side. We see the odd snake at the end of Oct. so in your country they should be active.

  12. Love the shot of the bridge and the hills and the little story that went with it. The windmill and big sky photo is neat, too. And I'd love to see that Lewis and Clark display. Might have to put that on our list for our next trip out that way.

  13. Your story of the back roads roller coaster reminds me of riding along the river when we were kids. My little brother hated to ride, but I told him the rolling hills were like riding a roller coaster. The only difference was horses instead of car. It was fun.

  16. There's a road real close to my house that's like that and it's got several curves. I always think of a roller coaster when I'm traveling on that road

  20. Snakes, yipes! I'd heard about pilot snakes. This one was kinda pretty, as far as snakes go.

I've always wanted to go to Council Bluffs. Your photos are magnificent!

And cheers to you and your buddies! Hope those cold ones when down smooth. . . well-deserved, one and all. (Hub shares your sentiments!)
