An Easy Stay

Have you ever wished you could live in the middle of the woods and have a remote world to be part of? A piece of tranquility and harmony all to yourself? This is a place I enjoy, Pioneer Ridge Nature Center, in Wapello County, Iowa. These cabins are huge and surrounded by nice woods, with a large tract of prairie to roam in on some outstanding trails. These are the only two cabins and they are spread out from one another to give you some space. Now remember the middle of nowhere, you are 90 miles from the nearest big mall. The next county over has no stop lights or fast food. Let me know if you decide to try it out.

The pics above and below are at the halfway point of both cabins on a back trail.

Bring your horses if you would like. Many of the counties have cabins to rent for an incredible low rate, these are the only two in this county so they can fill up quick.

  1. Ah, sweet bliss! These cabins are treasures! If they were closer, hub and I would definitely enjoy a weekend's retreat with nature. A county without stop lights and fast foods - now that's an amazing treasure!

  7. I would be there in a heartbeat if I could! This is wonderful...they look beautiful...and I'm not sure if I would ever want to return to "civility"! (And I detest shopping!!!!!)
    What a great trek away!

  8. The cabins look wonderful. All I need to do is drive to town occasionally for groceries and other necessities. Away from "civilization" sounds like a nice break. About two years would do it. If I could take my grandchildren, I could go for 5 years.

  10. We would love this :) Its very simalar to what we do each summer in MN. We stay in a cabin on a lake & have nothing to do but have fun!! I look forward to it every year :) Though we have a small town about 5 mins away to get all our food etc., the rest is just nature & family time.

  12. Steve, you have all your readers "hooked" on the beauty and serenity of these cabins, myself included. Not being near a mall is not a problem with us as we are already 90 minutes from any. Do the cabins have electricity, bathroom facilities? Jutso wondering.

  13. These certainly look tempting. I just looked them up on the internet, and the rates are very attractive. It might be something that Doug and I would want to look into. Thanks for sharing.

  16. Looks like a great place to write, although I think I've seen far too many scary movies to be comfortable staying alone in the middle of the woods!
